New Yorker article on Language and Thought

September 28th, 2009

I read this article my senior year of college as I carried out my first psychology experiments (on lateralized color processing effects), and it may have influenced my career choices…anyhow, a fascinating piece.

Delicious Recipes

I made baked beans from scratch for a lab picnic (on a pontoon boat at Lake Monroe…which was awesome). Somebody else made these mouthwatering Brazilian cheese rolls, which I hope to make soon. Transitioning from om to yum.

Resveratrol looks promising. Same effects as caloric restriction, but more studies needed in mammals. Biotivia has the best supplements. We will see.

Banana Bread

May 13th, 2008

I made some. It was tasty. I added walnuts. Yum.

Banana Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour

Method

No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4×8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

80% of the time I prefer extroverted female faces over introverted female faces (confirming their hypothesis that extroverts prefer extroverted mates).
