My name is George Earle Kachergis. I am named George after my dad's dad, Earle, from my mom's dad, and Kachergis, from my dad's dad's parents, who came from Lithuania. I'm from Pittsboro, a small city on the outskirts of the Triangle (near Chapel Hill) in North Carolina. I was born in 1984, the year of the Apple and the Orwell novel. I graduated in 2007 from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota with degrees in Cognitive Studies and Computer Science. Currently, I am working on a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science and Cognitive Psychology at Indiana University Bloomington in Rich Shiffrin's lab.
Generally, I'm fascinated by the accelerating progress of technology and the ways the world is changing. I hope to contribute to human knowledge of the mind, with the eventual goal of creating a general artificial intelligence. I have no religious beliefs; I rely on my curiosity to make the world interesting and exciting.
Here is a bit about my family's history.
